Why the Finnish Early Education model is famous

  • Consistently High PISA Rankings

Finland’s students regularly rank among the top in the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), and this success is often traced back to their strong early childhood foundation.

  • Global Benchmark for Progressive Education

Educators and policymakers worldwide look to Finland for its innovative, evidence-based practices in early learning, which emphasize wellbeing over testing.

  • Non-Competitive, Low-Stress Approach

Finnish early education avoids high-stakes testing and academic pressure. Children don’t even start formal schooling until age 7, which challenges the global norm and garners attention.

Why is it good for children

  • Play-Based Learning

Play is seen as essential—not a break from learning, but the primary method of learning.

Children develop creativity, collaboration, emotional regulation, and problem-solving through guided and free play.

  • Holistic Child Development

Focus is on developing the whole child: cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development.

Emphasis is placed on self-expression, empathy, and building healthy relationships—not just academic skills.

  • Individualized Learning

Teachers tailor activities to each child's pace, interests, and needs.

This fosters confidence and a love for learning rather than fear of failure.

  • Qualified Teachers

Teacher’s role is emphasizes and that is why emphasis is put on teacher training

This ensures consistent, high-quality care and education.

  • Strong Outdoor & Nature Connection

Children spend a lot of time outdoors, regardless of weather.

This promotes physical health, resilience, and environmental awareness.

  • Trust-Based System

There’s minimal bureaucracy. Teachers are trusted to do their jobs without excessive oversight, which fosters innovation and responsiveness.

LILLIPODS® Subjects

At LILLIPODS Preschools, each subject is designed to support children's learning and development through teacher-led activities that promote curiosity, creativity, and academic skills.

  • Language

Language skills help children build vocabulary, understand sounds, and communicate better. At LILLIPODS, we make language fun through interactive activities like storytime with props, singing songs and rhymes, and encouraging conversation. We also use picture books with textures and sounds to make learning language an exciting experience.

  • Numeracy

Early math focuses on numbers, shapes, and patterns. We teach math in playful ways, like counting objects, going on shape hunts, and building patterns with toys or snacks. Children enjoy puzzles and sorting blocks by size, color, or shape, making math fun and interactive at LILLIPODS.

  • Science & Environment

Science and environmental education help children explore the world around them. We take nature walks, engage in water play, and conduct simple experiments to teach about nature and how things work. At LILLIPODS, children can explore gardens, watch seeds grow, and experience science firsthand.

  • Socio-Emotional Skills

Learning how to manage emotions, share, and communicate effectively is an essential part of development. We practice these skills through role-playing, feelings charts, and group activities. Children use storybooks and puppet shows to understand emotions in a safe and fun way.

  • Physical Education (P.E.)

Physical education helps children develop motor skills and coordination through active play. At LILLIPODS, we create obstacle courses, play movement games like “Simon Says” and “Freeze Dance,” and encourage children to imitate animal movements. Our outdoor spaces with slides, tunnels, and open areas provide plenty of opportunities for running, jumping, and dancing.

  • Arts & Culture

Creativity and self-expression are fostered through art, music, and performance. We encourage children to engage in creative art projects, explore music and dance, and learn about different cultures through storytelling. Our children enjoy painting, making collages, and participating in group music activities like drumming and singing.

What Are the Benefits of LILLIPODS® Education
for Your Child?

  • At Lillipods, learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends like other preschools. Our flexible, full-day model—including our enriching after-school club—ensures continuity of learning and care from morning to late afternoon. Inspired by Finland’s world-renowned Education Care model, we see every caregiving moment as an opportunity for connection, discovery, and joy. Every interaction between child and teacher becomes a meaningful part of your child’s learning story.

  • Our curriculum—rooted in Finnish early education excellence and informed by global best practices—nurtures the whole child. From emotional resilience to strong language and math foundations, children are taught to shine socially and succeed academically.

  • We prepare children for more than just the next classroom—we prepare them for the world. While academic readiness is key, we go further by cultivating emotional intelligence, adaptability, and a lifelong love of learning. At Lillipods, we intentionally reduce the pressures of academic testing and focus on building resilience, confidence, and joy—qualities proven to lead to long-term success in both school and beyond.

  • Did you know Finland ranks among the world’s top non-native English-speaking countries? At Lillipods, children learn English the same way Finnish kids do: through immersive, play-based experiences that build real-world language skills. Our English lessons are seamlessly embedded into daily activities, making language learning natural, engaging, and incredibly effective—especially in the early years.
